Blooming Late is WAY better than not blooming at all!
I graduated from UCLA (with honors, thank you very much!) in 2005 at age 52 with a degree in Cultural Anthropology. To make matters more interesting, my two sons were there at the same time. (Luckily it's a big campus and they'd reached the maturity level where they found the situation more amusing than mortifying!)
After graduation, I felt the need to really get out of my comfort zone so I started doing stand-up comedy and have performed in Ireland, England and Spain, in addition to around Los Angeles.
I moved to Europe for a year in 2005, spending most of her time in Galway, Ireland, and York, England.
I spent six weeks in Japan, interviewing midlife women for my honors thesis; lived for ten weeks in a hostel in Ireland in a room with seven other women sharing one bathroom; volunteered a couple of times at an English school in Spain (which was a lot like a summer camp for adults - with wine!); and worked at an archaeological dig at a castle in England - camping on the North Sea coast without my sleeping bag because it didn't arrive from the U.S. in time!
AND I had never traveled out of the country until after my 50th birthday!
